Two weeks and counting…

Well with Christmas over, it’s now just two weeks until we set off. We have been kitted out with down jackets, raincoats, head torches and most importantly spare batteries, mini DV tapes and a raincoat for our beloved Sony A1. Sadly the bright yellow Pelican case will have to stay at home. Tickets have been picked up, visas organised, vaccinations (ouch!) sorted and the old faithful backpack has been dusted off. Although it has been two weeks since the Typhoid, Hepatitis and Yellow Fever jabs, I still feel like I am coming down with the flu!

It is strange to think, now that I am sitting behind my desk in the newsroom in Sydney, that in just a few weeks I will be fending off the mozzies in the Amazon and scaling the heights of Machu Picchu in search of the perfect moment to capture on film. I have high hopes that I will be able to walk the fine line between being an observer through the lens of a camera and yet still be involved in what will most likely be a breathtaking adventure. I guess that will be my version of finding a work/life balance from now on…

Anyway, getting excited now!

Until next time.

  3. I, too, will be closely following your adventures. In my role as distant aunt, I promise not to worry Em as I know that you and Stuart will take good care of each other.
Enjoy together what will come before you. Know that I will be keeping you close to me.
